Ethiopia prepares to relaunch betting and digital lotteries under stricter rules

The trigger was an audit: according to the draft, of Br30 billion owed to the state only about Br3.6 billion was paid. All sports betting licences were revoked in December 2025. A digital monitoring system is planned to track operators' obligations.
